Fischer to undergo surgery for torn ACL

Associated Press

DETROIT -- Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer will be sidelined four-to-six months with a knee injury that will require surgery.

He has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be operated on in three-to-four weeks, team spokesman John Hahn said Wednesday.

Fischer, in his fourth season, injured his knee late in the third period of Detroit's 4-1 win over Nashville on Tuesday night.
