Donato, Ward recalled by Rangers

SportsTicker

NEW YORK -- In an attempt to shake up a dormant offense, the New York Rangers on Monday recalled veteran wingers Ted Donato and Dixon Ward and assigned wingers Jamie Lundmark and Rico Fata to Hartford of the American Hockey League.

Donato had two goals and seven assists in 10 games with Hartford while Ward had four goals and five assists in six games.

Donato, 33, has played in 684 career NHL games for Boston, the New York Islanders, Ottawa, Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and St. Louis. The 5-10, 186-pounder has 142 goals and 191 assists and scored 20 or more goals three times for the Bruins.

Ward, 34, played in the first five games of the season for the Rangers and failed to record a point before being sent to Hartford. He has played in 599 NHL games for Vancouver, Los Angeles, Toronto, Buffalo, Boston and the Rangers and recorded 95 goals, 129 assists and 429 penalty minutes.

Lundmark, a first-round pick in 1999, has been a major disappointment for the Rangers, managing just one assist in 14 games.

Fata, the sixth overall pick in the 1998 draft, was recalled last month after scoring five goals in six games with Hartford but failed to get a point in four games with the Rangers.

New York has scored a total of 32 goals in 14 games.
