The Dallas Stars said on Tuesday that winger Bill Guerin will not be disciplined for a Sept. 15 incident involving prospect Brett Draney in training camp. Guerin hit Draney on the side of the neck with his stick and then cross-checked the ex-WHL player after he hit the ground. Draney, who was not injured in the incident, then went after Guerin. The two players were separated, and later put the incident behind them. Team officials did the same, saying they were surprised at the attention it was getting. The incident occurred in a team scrimmage, so the NHL had no jurisdiction in the matter. "It wasn't a big deal in our organization at all,'' a Stars spokesman told the Canadian Press. "It looked worse than it really was.'' Guerin is coming off a career-best 41-goal season with the Boston Bruins. Draney was re-assigned to the AHL's Utah Grizzlies, the Stars' top farm team, on Sunday. Draney was chosen 186th overall by Dallas in the sixth round of the 1999 NHL entry draft. |
