Sabres postpone trip to Canada

Associated Press

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres postponed plans to open training camp at St. Catharines, Ontario, fearing delays at the Canadian border following Tuesday's terrorist attacks.

Instead, the Sabres will open camp at their suburban-Buffalo practice facility Wednesday.

Although border crossings into Canada remain open, but with heightened security, Sabres spokesman Mike Gilbert said the team didn't want to chance any problems of getting its foreign players and support staff into the country.

"We just weren't sure how the events of the day would play out," Gilbert said, after the Sabres reported for physicals at HSBC Arena.

Gilbert said the team would consider moving camp to St. Catharines -- about 45 minutes west of Buffalo -- on Thursday.

The Sabres were to spend four days practicing at St. Catharines before flying to their other training camp site in South Carolina Sunday.
