Bure joins brother Pavel in Southern Florida

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Calgary Flames sent disgruntled forward Valeri Bure and winger Jason
Wiemer to the Florida Panthers on Saturday for center Rob Niedermayer and a second-round pick.
Calgary used the selection, 56th overall, to draft Russian goalie
Andrei Medvedev.
"It's a time for change," Flames general manager Craig Button
said.
Bure, the brother of Florida's Pavel Bure, had 27 goals and 28
assists in 78 games with the Flames. But he felt Flames management
was misusing him. He had a career-high 35 goals and 40 assists in
1999-2000.
"I'm very comfortable Valeri will buy into what we're doing
here," Panthers general manager Bill Torrey said.
Niedermayer had 12 goals and 20 assists in 67 games last season.
"Rob is a good-sized player that skates well, and for whatever
reason, we didn't think that he was performing up to his level of
play," Button said. "We feel that he can get back to the level of
a 50- to 60-point player that's a real good two-way player for our
team."
