SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes traded veteran
defenseman Jyrki Lumme to the Dallas Stars for right wing Tyler
Bouck on Saturday.
The trade is Phoenix's most recent move in an effort to trim its
$38 million payroll.
Three of Phoenix's five highest-paid players have been traded by
general manager Cliff Fletcher. The Coyotes' Jeremy Roenick intends
to sign with another team as a free agent after July 1.
The 34-year-old Lumme is scheduled to earn $4.2 million next
season. Roenick earned $5 million last season.
Keith Tkachuk and his $8.3 million salary was dealt to the St.
Louis Blues in mid-March. Keith Carney ($2.35 million) was traded
to Anaheim on Tuesday.
The Coyotes have also traded away Travis Green, Joe Juneau, Juha
Ylonen and the rights to holdouts Mikael Renberg and Robert
Reichel.
Lumme, sidelined in the middle of last season with a back
injury, finished with four goals and 21 assists in 58 games. The
13-year veteran signed with the Coyotes as a free agent in July
1998.
The 21-year-old Bouck, the 57th overall draft pick in 1998, made
his NHL debut for Dallas last season and contributed two goals,
five assists and 29 penalty minutes in 48 games. Bouck also had two
goals, six assists and 39 penalty minutes in 24 games for the Utah
Grizzlies of the IHL.
