PHILADELPHIA -- Defenseman Chris Therien signed a four-year
deal with Philadelphia on Saturday, as the Flyers have all of their
players under contract for the season.
Terms of the deal were not released.
Therien, Eric Desjardins and Dan McGillis were the Flyers' core
defenseman in the 1999-2000 season. Therien had four goals and nine
assists in 80 games last season.
"I expect big things," Therien said. "We're looking to pick
up right where we left off."
The Flyers were still negotiating with left wing John LeClair on
Saturday. LeClair, due to become an unrestricted free agent after
the season, has set a deadline of Sunday for working out an
extension.
Team president Bob Clarke said Saturday that the two sides were
still negotiating.
"You always feel optimistic because with the amount of money
involved, you wonder how it couldn't get done," he said. | |
