DENVER -- Nearly three years ago, Colorado Avalanche goalie Patrick Roy said he thought he would play three more years in the
NHL. Now, he's shooting for at least four.

"My objective is to keep playing," Roy said Tuesday, three
days before the start of Avalanche training camp. Unless something
drastic happens, Roy said he wants to play on after the 2000-01
season.
"I still have the love of the game. I still have the desire.
It's still there in me," said Roy. At 34, the 15-year veteran and
three-time Stanley Cup champion said he does not feel old.
"I'd love to play another 10 years, although I know that won't
happen," said Roy, who enters camp 12 pounds lighter than his
190-pound playing weight of last season.
"I'll see how I feel after this season, and see what my family
thinks, but I just really love Colorado and this organization. I
expect to keep playing after this year."
Roy recently bought a big new house in the Denver area. But if
he is to continue playing for the Avalanche, he'll need a new
contract because his current deal expires after this season.
His $7.5 million salary is tops in the league, alongside that of
Buffalo Sabres goaltender Dominik Hasek.
Last season, Roy posted the lowest goals-against average of his
career at 2.28. He needs three victories to tie Terry Sawchuk at
447, the most for a goaltender in NHL history.
