Badgers captain heads for L.A.

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Center Steve Reinprecht, who led the Wisconsin Badgers and the nation in scoring as a senior this season, has signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

Reinprecht, 23, is eligible to begin playing immediately and will join the Kings in time for their game against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Saturday. He is, however, ineligible for the playoffs.

"We are excited to sign Steven, who is a skilled young player," Kings general manager Dave Taylor said Friday. "He will add to our organization, both for the long term and immediate future.

Reinprecht, Wisconsin's team captain the last two years, had 26 goals and 40 assists this season. A finalist for the Hobey Baker award, he finished his career at Wisconsin with 72 goals and 90 assists in 153 games.

Reinprecht was a free agent because he was passed over when he was eligible for the draft.
