Demitra, who suffered facial lacerations in Saturday's 5-1
victory over Tampa Bay, was examined on Monday by Dr. Ralph
Dacey, chief of neurosurgery of Washington University School of
Medicine.
Demitra, the Blues' leading scorer, had to be hospitalized after
he was checked into the boards by Brian Holzinger late in the
first period. Holzinger received a major penalty for checking
from behind and was ejected.
With two weeks left in the regular season, the Blues hope to
have the 25-year-old back in time for the playoffs. After
missing 10 days to recover from the concussion, he will be
evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
In 71 games this season, Demitra has recorded 28 goals and 47
assists for 75 points. The native of Slovakia came into his own
last season in his second full year in the NHL, registering 89
points on 37 goals and 52 assists.
Demitra finished 10th in the NHL in points and assists, 13th in
goals, eighth with 14 power-play tallies and second with 10
game-winning goals. | |
