| PITTSBURGH -- Jaromir Jagr, the NHL's leading scorer, didn't
play for the Pittsburgh Penguins against the New Jersey Devils
Tuesday night because of a bruised back.
In his fourth game back from missing 12 games because of leg
injuries, Jagr lasted only three shifts at Philadelphia Sunday.
Flyers defenseman Dan McGillis smashed Jagr into the boards from
behind, then the Penguins' captain bounced off the ice. McGillis
and other players fell on Jagr. His back was bruised near the left
shoulder.
Jagr did not practice Monday.
"I had some treatments and massage, and I'm going to go to
acupuncture," Jagr said. "As soon as I hit the ice, I felt the
pain."
Jagr also had a rib injury that caused him to miss four games
and a nagging hand injury.
"Since the middle of January, Jagr has had a run of tough
luck," Penguins coach Herb Brooks said. "He had the rib cage.
That hand set him back. He took a very bad slash in Atlanta that he
played through. That bothered him for a long time.
"Then, it was both legs, and now it's this thing. So ... he's a
marked guy because of his stature and his ability." | |
