TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday acquired
center Darcy Tucker and two draft picks from the Tampa Bay
Lightning for right wing Mike Johnson and minor league
defenseman Marek Posmyk.
The Leafs received Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in this year's draft and the option to exchange conditional mid-round selections in the 2001 draft. In return, the Lightning obtained Toronto's fifth- and sixth-round picks in the upcoming draft. Currently in his fourth NHL season, Tucker, 24, recorded 14 goals and 20 assists for 34 points in 50 games for the Lightning. He was one of only two players to play in all 82 games for Tampa Bay last season, leading the club in goals (21), assists (22) and points (43). Johnson, 25, also is in his fourth NHL season and registered 11 goals and 14 assists in 52 contests for the Leafs. "Mike Johnson has good size, is a very good skater and is capable of scoring 20-plus goals on a regular basis," Tampa Bay general manager Rick Dudley said. "He's also an outstanding penalty killer and a solid two-way player." Posmyk, a 6-foot-5, 228-pound native of the Czech Republic, appeared in 38 games for the St. John's Flames of the American Hockey League, collecting a goal, six assists and 57 minutes in penalties. |
