"If they've got a sweater, then I want to find places for them to play," Brooks said. "It's a long season, so there's work for everybody. And they all have different ways to contribute. I keep saying that, but I think that's really the way it is. So, we'll try to keep that going."

Heading into Saturday night, when the Penguins lost 5-2 at home to Florida, Brooks still expected to keep expanding the contributions.

In the four games before Saturday's loss, all wins for the Penguins (12-15-3-4), each of the players who have dressed skated at least nine or 10 shifts, logging seven or more minutes of ice time. Only backup goalie Peter Skudra did not play.

Veteran forward Tom Chorske, a healthy scratch the three games before Brooks' arrival, has made a strong contribution on the fourth line with Stephen Leach and Ian Moran.

"We like to put them in after we score a goal," Brooks said. "As you know, there can be a little bit of a letdown after a team scores. But we want to keep the pressure on our opponents, so that line provides it.

Moran has played in 27 of 29 games this season, the most of any fourth-line forward, but he also has played defense. He has two goals and three points this season.

"We need to play good defense, make some big hits and maybe even score a goal here and there. But we definitely don't want to give up any goals," Moran said.

Chorske was signed in the offseason to provide additional toughness and veteran leadership, but he struggled through the first quarter of the season and was a healthy scratch in former coach Kevin Constantine's final three games.

In 22 games this season, Chorske has one goal and three points. But he's glad to be back in the lineup under Brooks.

"I thought I could score maybe 15-20 goals this season, but I guess I've had to change that a little bit," Chorske said. "That's OK. I'm getting another shot to show what I can do now, and I think I've made a strong contribution. Hopefully, I can keep that up the rest of the season."

Leach signed late after being invited to camp on a tryout basis. He has played 23 games and scored a goal and an assist.

"I think I've had a pretty good season so far," Leach said. "I haven't played a lot, but I think I've done pretty well when I got a chance to play. And I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season."

The Penguins' other three scoring lines have consisted of Jaromir Jagr, Jan Hrdina and Martin Straka on the top unit; Robert Lang, German Titov and Alexei Kovalev with the second group; and Matthew Barnaby, Kip Miller and Alexei Morozov on the third line.
