ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Curtis Joseph was pretty busy for a goalie involved in a scoreless tie. Joseph had to make 36 saves, including eight in overtime, as the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues matched zeros Saturday night. His counterpart, Roman Turek, faced only 16 shots -- and none in the extra period. "For Joseph, they shoot outside the line -- just put rubber at him," Toronto coach Pat Quinn said. "But he wasn't called to make a lot of great saves. "Neither team was creating real good offense." Joseph is 9-5-2 against his former team, this time ending the Blues' seven-game winning streak. Former GM-coach Mike Keenan traded him in 1995. "Did somebody tell him Keenan's already gone?" Blues defenseman Al MacInnis said. "He's still taking it out on us." Joseph, who had four shutouts last season, already has two this season. He also blanked the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 7. "You don't get too many of those 0-0 ties," Joseph said. "I guess it was a fairly exciting game." The Blues got three of their overtime shots during a rare 4-on-3 advantage after Bryan McCabe was whistled for boarding at the 38-second mark. Just before that, Scott Young nearly got the puck past Joseph with a drive from the point. The shutout was the fourth by the Blues in 14 games this season, two each by Turek and rookie Brent Johnson, who blanked Washington 2-0 Thursday night. Despite a lack of offense, the Blues gained a point to tie the Colorado Avalanche and Phoenix Coyotes for first overall in the NHL. "I think our record is the way it is because of our goaltending," MacInnis said. "Both Brent and Roman have played exceptionally well and bailed us out in a lot of games." It was the Blues' first scoreless game since a home game on April 1 against the Detroit Red Wings, and the Maple Leafs' first since Nov. 4, 1997, exactly three years ago, against the San Jose Sharks. The Maple Leafs had the best scoring chance in regulation when Sergei Berezin got off three shots from in front of the net with about one minute remaining. "He's not finishing off," Quinn said. "He's a pretty frustrated guy right now." Turek was able to laugh about the sequence, which coach Joel Quenneville referred to as "frantic," after the game. "He didn't score," Turek said. "It's good for me, good for us." Toronto is 2-1-1 in its last four games. The Blues' 10-2-1 start had been tied for the best in franchise history. Game notesThe Blues have given up one power-play goal in 39 chances at home as the Maple Leafs went 0-for-3 with the man advantage. ... Toronto was the only Canadian-based team to beat the Blues last season, winning 3-2 on March 29 in St. Louis. ... The Blues have allowed one goal or fewer in nine games. ... Young's seven-game point streak (7-3-10) was snapped. ... The Blues' 6-0 start at home had tied their longest home winning streak to start the season (1983-84 and 1993-94). In 1993-94, they began the season 7-0-4 at home. ...
