Blues' Turgeon compiles four points

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Even though Scott Young is leading the NHL ingoals, he is still in awe of Pierre Turgeon these days.

Turgeon had four points, including an assist on Al MacInnis' game winner 15 seconds into overtime, to lead the Blues to a 4-3 win Saturday night over the Dallas Stars.

"He really had it in an extra gear tonight," said Young, who recorded his league-leading 11th goal on an assist from Turgeon. "Against a team like Dallas, you don't get that many chances. He was in on everything tonight."

The loss snapped the Stars' NHL record of 36 straight road victories when scoring at least three goals. The last time it happened was a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 17, 1998.

"We put ourselves in a position to win," Dallas defenseman Derian Hatcher said. "What can I say? We didn't play a horrible game."

Turgeon, who had two goals and two assists, won a faceoff at the St. Louis blue line early in overtime and broke out 2-on-1 with MacInnis. He slid the puck cross ice to MacInnis, who beat Dallas goalie Ed Belfour with a shot from the right circle.

"I just went forward and Al joined the play," Turgeon said.

Mike Modano scored twice for the Stars. Dallas' other goal came from Mike Keane.

"Sometimes you get away with it when you make mistakes," Modano said. "Tonight, we didn't. The mistakes seemed to be magnified and they resulted in goals against." The Stars led 3-2 going into the third period, but Turgeon scored 52 seconds into the period when he banged the rebound of Young's shot past Belfour for his third goal. Blues coach Joel Quenneville was happy to walk away with two points.

"It's a good measuring stick," Quenneville said. "Obviously, Dallas is a top team. You have to do a lot of things to be successful."

Turgeon opened the scoring 8:21 in, converting a centering pass from Craig Conroy.

With his team trailing 2-1, Modano scored twice in a 5:26 span of the second period to give the Stars the lead.

Modano scored the equalizer when he redirected Darryl Sydor's shot by Blues goalie Roman Turek at 8:27. He then banged home the rebound of Brenden Morrow's shot at 13:53 to make it 3-2.

Game notes
