ST. PAUL, Minnesota (Ticker) -- Defenseman Bryan McCabe scored the tying goal midway through the second period and Jocelyn Thibault made some big saves late as the Chicago Blackhawks skated to a 1-1 tie with the expansion Minnesota Wild.

With Minnesota's Pavel Patera off for interference, McCabe took a pass from Michal Nylander at the point and fired the puck past screened goaltender Manny Fernandez for his third preseason goal.

Patera gave the Wild a 1-0 lead midway through the first period when he beat Thibault with a low wrist shot off a 3-on-1.

Thibault made only one of his 20 saves in the third period, denying Kai Nurminen just past the midpoint. He also made a spectaular glove stop on Stacy Roest in the second period before robbing Nurminen and first-round pick Marian Gaborik in overtime.

Fernandez saw a lot more action with 29 saves, including 15 in the third period. He made a sliding pad stop on Tony Amonte's wraparound attempt late in regulation before padding away defenseman Chris McAlpine's blast as time expired in overtime.

The Wild rested veterans J.J. Daigneault, Scott Pellerin and Darby Hendrickson.
