CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- The Calgary Flames are slowly climbing back to respectability thanks to Valeri Bure and Fred Brathwaite.

Bure, who leads the team in scoring, got the game-winner early in the third period and Brathwaite made 33 saves as the Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 Friday night.

Bure's 15th goal of the season came on the power play at 1:09 of the third. Andrei Nazarov's close-in shot was stopped by goaltender Garth Snow, but the rebound bounced out to Bure in the high slot and he one-timed it into the net.

Nazarov and Cale Hulse scored the other goals for the Flames, who have won their past four home games. Marc Savard added two assists.

"When things are going well for you, like they are now, everybody is so confident," Bure said. "We go into the games feeling really good about ourselves."

Making his 11th start in the past 12 games, Brathwaite was especially spectacular in the third period, stopping all 16 shots he faced.

Brad May and Peter Schaefer scored for the Canucks, who are winless in their last eight road games (0-5-3).

The Canucks, who are playing without injured veterans Alexander Mogilny and Mark Messier, have won just once in their past 10 games (1-6-3).

"We started out so well and now it's been a battle with injuries and we seem to be snake-bitten with the puck not going in on our good chances," Canucks forward Markus Naslund said.

With Vancouver pressing for the tying goal in the game's final minute, Brathwaite made a spectacular diving stick save on Naslund, pulling the puck off the goal line as the forward attempted a wraparound.

"I was just swimming out there, but I'll take it," Brathwaite said in describing the play. "I'm not going to throw these two points back."

The play was reviewed on video and ruled as no goal.

"I thought it was over the line but they checked it upstairs on the cameras and said it was only partially in and not all the way," Naslund said. "You have to trust the cameras."

Trailing 2-1, Vancouver tied the game on a gritty effort by Schaefer as the Canucks finished killing off a penalty.

The rookie chased a loose puck behind the Calgary zone, then outmuscled three Flames at the side of the net to stuff the puck past Brathwaite.

Calgary went up 2-0 on goals 10 seconds apart midway through the first period.

Nazarov skated down the right wing and beat Snow to the far side on a slap shot from the blue line at 8:11. On the next rush, Hulse scored his first goal of the season on a soft wrist shot from 15 feet that deflected off a stick and over Snow's blocker.
