ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Boston Bruins goaltender Rob Tallas is
playing some of his best hockey on basically one leg.

Still bothered by a severely bruised left ankle suffered four
days earlier, Tallas made 29 saves to lead the Bruins to a 3-2
victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Sunday night.
Tallas didn't give up a goal until the last eight minutes as
Boston won for the second night in a row after opening the season
0-5-4. The Bruins beat San Jose 3-1 Saturday night.
Tallas had been struck on the ankle by a shot by teammate Ken
Belanger in warmups Wednesday, then stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 2-2
tie with the Los Angeles Kings.
Tallas said he didn't know if he would get through that game.
Sunday night, Tallas said he didn't know if he could come out for the second period.
"There were a few tests tonight," Tallas said. "That was a
hard game to play. It was a tougher game mentally. The ankle was
hurting more than it was the first game. That night, there was more
adrenaline flowing. After the first period, I went to the bathroom and got sick.
"I felt a lot of pain all through my ankle. Mentally, it was like I had to play two games."
Even so, Tallas gave up only a goal by Matt Cullen at 12:06 of
the third period and another by Oleg Tverdovsky at 18:58. That came
after Boston had taken a 3-0 lead.
"Robbie was hurting, but he played extremely well tonight,"
said Boston coach Pat Burns. "We got the lead early and he made it
stand up."
The Mighty Ducks looked like a team that had played the night
before, not Boston, as the Bruins outworked them in the first two
periods.
"We didn't do anything we wanted to do the first two periods,"
said Anaheim coach Craig Hartsburg. "I'm not saying we didn't have
effort, but we were playing on the wrong side of the puck. We were
worrying about our offense too much and we weren't doing the things we're supposed to do."
Sergei Samsonov and Dave Andreychuk had put the Bruins ahead 2-0
with first-period goals off Guy Hebert.
Samsonov beat Hebert high on the left side on a shot from the
right circle at 3:48 of the first period.
Andreychuk then scored at 16:29. Tverdovsky tried to clear in
front of the Anaheim net up the slot, but put the puck right on
Andreychuk's stick, and he beat Hebert on a 25-foot slap shot.
Boston's third goal came on an extended power play.
At 10:32 of the period, Anaheim's Jim Nielsen was assessed a two-minute penalty for goaltender interference. At 12:07, Tverdovsky was given a double minor for high sticking when his stick caught Samsonov across the face.
The Mighty Ducks killed the five-on-three advantage Boston had for 26 seconds, but Steve Heinze scored his second goal from point-blank range at 13:21 to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead.
Cullen scored on a shot from the right circle with players in front, beating Tallas high on the right side. Tverdovsky scored on another at 18:58, beating Tallas over his right shoulder.
Hebert, who gave up five goals Thursday in a 5-5 tie in Chicago, has given up eight goals in his last two starts.
