BOX SCORE
ERIE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Stu Barnes scored a power-play goal and set up another as the Buffalo Sabres survived a shaky second period for their first exhibition victory, 3-1 over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Barnes had the only assist on rookie Brian Campbell's power-play marker with 6:13 in the first period. But the Sabres were outshot in the second, 10-1, as Tampa Bay tied it on Steve Guolla's power-play goal. Barnes broke the deadlock with 4:46 remaining in the third and Domenic Pittis added a shorthanded empty-net tally in the final minute. Dwayne Roloson played the first 29 1/2 minutes and turned aside eight of nine shots. Martin Biron finished up and stopped all 22 shots he faced. Ex-Sabre Daren Puppa went the distance for Tampa Bay, finishing with 14 saves.
