DALLAS (AP) -- Even on the rare occasions when he plays, Dallas Stars backup Manny Fernandez is used to having Ed Belfour on the bench.
Fernandez had to fend for himself Wednesday night and made 23 saves, but the Vancouver Canucks rallied to earn a 3-3 tie with the Stars.

Belfour was not at Reunion Arena to lend support after he was jailed early Wednesday morning for a scuffle he had with a local hotel security guard.
"It felt weird," said Fernandez, making only his 16th appearance of the season. "It was different with him not being around. It's an extra confidence having him on the bench. Tonight I think I put too much pressure on myself."
Fernandez allowed two third-period goals, including Alexander Mogilny's rebound with 9:41 left in regulation.
Mogilny scored his 19th goal, tucking a loose puck past Fernandez.
"It was a tough game to be in after not playing for a while (he last played on Feb. 21)," Fernandez said. "It was an average game for me but we're happy to get the point."
Dallas had a 7-0 shots advantage in the overtime, but the Stars' best scoring chance by Jamie Langenbrunner from the slot with 30 seconds left was stopped by Garth Snow.
"I tried to weather the storm," Snow said. "It was a great point for our team. We showed a lot of grit and character to come back."
Andrew Cassels and Harold Druken also scored for the Canucks, making a late bid for a playoff spot. Vancouver is 6-2-3-1 in its last 12 games to move into position to challenge for the Western Conference playoffs. The Canucks started the night six points behind eighth-place San Jose.
"It was a big game for us," Mogilny said. "In the past when we've been one or two goals down we'd get discouraged. Now we believe we can beat anybody. Confidence is a big factor in this game."
The Canucks denied Stars coach Ken Hitchcock his 200th NHL victory. Hitchcock, who coached his 355th game, is trying to become the fourth-fastest to reach the milestone.
Belfour, a key contributor in the Stars' run to league title last season, spent more than six hours under arrest Wednesday morning. He was charged with assault and resisting arrest.
Belfour was not scheduled to start, but was expected to be available as Fernandez's backup. Team officials said they didn't know when Belfour would return.
Rookie Marty Turco was called up from Michigan of the International Hockey League and served as the No. 2 goalie.
Center Guy Carbonneau, out with a hairline fracture of his right wrist, was placed on injured reserve to make room on the roster.
During the game the Stars lost two defensemen -- Derian Hatcher to an Achilles' tendon injury and Brad Lukowich to a knee injury. Both will be evaluated on Thursday.
But Hitchcock was more concerned about the effect Belfour's troubles might have on the team.
"We had an open and frank discussion this morning but we've moved ahead," Hitchcock said. "There's a genuine concern with respect to this issue, not just for Eddie but for the community because this stuff just hasn't happened to our team. He has to be held accountable."
Grant Marshall's power-play goal at 18:16 of the first pinballed in off the stick of defenseman Chris Joseph and gave Dallas a 2-1 lead. Referee Lance Roberts consulted video replay before ruling that Marshall scored his second of the season.
Brett Hull and Jon Sim also scored for the Stars. Hull has 606 career goals, four behind his father, Bobby, for eighth place in NHL history.
Dallas took a 3-1 lead into the third period, but Vancouver made it a one-goal game at 1:19 by catching Fernandez out of position. Fernandez roamed out of his crease to play the puck and Druken took advantage by firing his fourth goal into an open net.
The Canucks thought they had tied it with 17:41 left, but after another replay review, Trent Klatt's goal was disallowed because Markus Naslund interfered with Fernandez.
Hull's 20th goal at 9:30 of the first gave Dallas a 1-0 lead and gave Hull his 13th consecutive season with at least 20 goals.
