CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- It was only appropriate that a game featuring the NHL's two best overtime teams wasn't settled in regulation.

Pavol Demitra scored twice -- including the game-winner -- as the St. Louis Blues won their fourth in a row by defeating the Calgary Flames 5-4 Tuesday night.

A pass from Michal Handzus sent Demitra in on a breakaway and he beat Fred Brathwaite on a shot through the pads at 2:02 of overtime.

"He does have a lot of moves in his bag, and sure it was a nice goal, but it was a bad read on my part," Brathwaite said. "I should have come out and made him make a move."

St. Louis improved to 5-0-6 in overtime while Calgary dropped to 10-2-5.

The win moved the Blues past the Detroit Red Wings into first place in the Western Conference.

St. Louis had a 4-2 lead entering the final five minutes of the game but goals 3:37 apart by Valeri Bure and Andrei Nazarov tied it.

"We let a couple goals in at the end and we have to learn from these kinds of mistakes, but we won in overtime and that's most important," Demitra said.

The late-game excitement overshadowed a solid performance from St. Louis center Marty Reasoner, who scored twice in his first game filling in for the injured Pierre Turgeon.

Reasoner was recalled from Worcester of the AHL on Monday. Scott Pellerin also scored for St. Louis and Demitra extended his point-scoring streak to seven games (4-5-9).

Jeff Shantz and Clarke Wilm also scored for the Flames.

The loss, Calgary's fourth in a row, snapped a seven-game home winning streak. It was just the Flames' second loss at the Canadian Airlines Saddledome since Nov. 13 (13-2-1).

"We need to be better prepared to start the game," Flames winger Rene Corbet said. "We gave up too many scoring chances early and it cost us the game. If we always have to come back and come back like this at the end, we're going to run out of gas."

Trailing 4-2, Calgary pulled within a goal when Bure scored his 27th from a scramble at 15:12.

Nazarov tied it at 18:49, firing Marc Savard's pass past Roman Turek.

Bure's 27 goals are a career high, surpassing the 26 he scored last season.
