BOX SCORE
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -- Dean McAmmond had a goal and an assist, sparking a three-goal second-period, as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 on Sunday night. Steve Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal, a short-handed tally, and Jean-Pierre Dumont also had a goal for the Blackhawks. Last-place Chicago moved within two points of the slumping Canucks, 2-7-2 in their last 11 games. Markus Naslund scored the lone goal for the Canucks who, coming off Friday's 4-1 win over San Jose, haven't won back-to-back games since Nov. 5. Naslund, the Canucks' leading scorer, extended his point streak to five games. He has three goals and eight points during the span. Blackhawks goalie Jocelyn Thibault stopped 30 shots and was bowled over by Vancouver's Brad May midway through the third period. After gloving an errant shot, Thibault had his mask knocked off his head while he was sent sprawling backwards. Thibault got up, after a few minutes on the ice, and completed the game. Two minutes later, Thibault made his biggest stop of the night, gloving Greg Hawgood's one-timer from the slot. After Naslund opened the scoring 2:13 into the second, the Blackhawks responded with three goals on three shots in a 6:20 span. McAmmond tied it when he got around Canucks defenseman Murray Baron and had his shot trickle in under Garth Snow's pad with 7:31 left in the second. McAmmond then set up Sullivan to give the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead with five minutes left in the period. With Chicago's Bob Probert off for holding, McAmmond got to an errant puck at his own blue line and carried it up the right wing before centering it to Sullivan, who snapped a 20-foot shot over Snow's left shoulder. Dumont completed the surge, scoring on a wide-open breakaway with 1:11 left in the period. Following the goal, someone from the stands threw a dead salmon onto the ice, drawing cheers from the sparse GM Place crowd of 12,106.
