ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Stanley Cup was on display behind section 214 on the plaza concourse level of Anaheim Arena on Friday night during the Mighty Ducks' game against Colorado.

Ducks coach Craig Hartsburg should have spirited the Cup to the dressing room, where it would have done the most good -- in terms of motivation. Nothing else he has tried has worked this season.

Despite their 3-3 tie with the Avalanche, the Ducks are 10th in the Western Conference standings and three points out of a playoff spot. But for the second consecutive game, Anaheim rallied in the third period to avoid a loss.

Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne scored in the same game for the first time in their last 31 appearances together and only the fourth time all season, as Selanne ended a six-game goal drought with 1:40 left in the third period.

"Teemu's been the best goal-scorer in the league since he's been here," Kariya said. "Even the best go through streaks where nothing's going in, but he didn't let it affect this game. Tonight he got rewarded, and now he's going to take off."

It was the first time that Selanne and Kariya had goals in the same game since Nov. 3, when the Ducks tied Philadelphia 3-3 in Anaheim. They are 33-4-9 when Kariya and Selanne score in the same game, and 21-0-3 at home.

"Paul is playing great hockey right now, and I'm just trying to keep up with him," Selanne said after scoring only his second goal in 12 games. "Everything is about confidence. Hopefully, this is a big boost for me and the team. I've wanted to help this team for a long time."

Kariya also had two assists, including a pass that set up a first-period goal by Oleg Tverdovsky.

Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic and Chris Drury scored for Colorado, which extended its unbeaten streak to a season-best six games (4-0-2).

Selanne tied it with his 17th goal, getting a pass in the slot from Kariya and beating Patrick Roy to the stick side from 20 feet.

"I knew exactly where the pass was going to come," Selanne said. "I just tried to get away from their checking and give Paul room to pass."

Drury, the only player ever to win the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player and NHL rookie of the year honors in back-to-back seasons, put the Avalanche ahead at 18:41 of the second with his 13th goal.

Sandis Ozolinsh sent Drury on a 2-on-1 break agianst Anaheim defenseman Jason Marshall, and the second-year center completed a perfect give-and-go with rookie Alex Tanguay for his team-leading 40th point.

Kariya's goal put Anaheim ahead 2-1 at 4:43 of the second period after Dave Reid was sent off for interfering with goalie Guy Hebert. The Ducks captain beat Roy high to the stick side with a slap shot from the left point. It ended a streak of 24 consecutive penalty kills by the Avalanche and gave the Ducks only their third power-play goal in 58 opportunities during a 13-game span.

"They played very well," Roy said after his teammates were outshot 38-15 and 5-0 in overtime. "They probably deserved to win that game. We scored three goals, and normally we do a better job in the last two minutes than we did tonight."

Sakic and Forsberg, who have combined for 40 points over the last 11 games, collaborated on the tying goal at 8:12 of the second period. Forsberg got the puck in the neutral zone from Adam Deadmarsh, skated down the right wing and fed it into the slot, where Sakic beat Hebert high to the stick side from 15 feet for his 26th point in 28 games.

Playing in front of only their third sellout crowd in 26 home games this season, the Ducks opened the scoring less than 12 minutes into the game. Tverdovsky got the puck in the right circle from Marty McInnins, skated right past Forsberg and beat Roy from the edge of the crease.

Tverdovsky's fifth goal ended a scoreless streak of 173 minutes, 36 seconds by Colorado goalies, including Marc Denis' 2-0 victory over Phoenix and Roy's scoreless duel with San Jose rookie Evgeni Nabokov on Wednesday night.
