PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Eric Lindros can't return soon enough for the Philadelphia Flyers. The problem is, no one knows -- or will say -- when that might be. The Flyers continued to struggle without their injured captain, extending their winless streak to four games Thursday night with a 1-1 tie against the Ottawa Senators.
Lindros missed his third straight game after sustaining his third concussion in 22 months last Friday in Atlanta. He skated with the team Thursday morning for the first time since the injury, but the team offered no update on his condition after the game. General manager Bob Clarke denied media requests to interview team doctor Gary Dorshimer, who talked with Lindros early in the game before the captain went home. There was no way to know how Lindros fared after his first stint on the ice. Lindros will have tests Friday morning that will determine if he is fit to play. He has said he hopes to return Sunday at Pittsburgh or Thursday at home against Florida. Meanwhile, the Flyers have three goals during their 0-3-1 slide -- one in each game Lindros has missed. Shawn McEachern scored his 19th goal for the Senators, who closed out a 3-1-1 road trip. Valeri Zelepukin scored the Flyers' first even-strength goal in five games. "Everyone seems to be pressing a bit," Neilson said. Both teams hit the post in the third period, and the Flyers had several chances in overtime. Igor Kravchuk foiled the best one when he tied up John LeClair as he tried to convert a pass from Simon Gagne in front of the net. Ottawa goalie Ron Tugnutt, who stopped 23 of 24 shots, poked away LeClair's pass to Mark Recchi with 15 seconds left in regulation. He also made a nice save on a late slap shot by LeClair. "Big John's slapper, that opened my eyes a little bit," Tugnutt said. "I decided to go out there and cover the five-hole. I said when I went out there, 'This is going to hurt.' I thought he was going to hit me pretty hard with it, but it just nipped the notch of my stick." Ottawa's Magnus Arvedson was taken to a hospital after a brutal collision involving Philadelphia's Marc Bureau with 5:12 left in the third. Arvedson had multiple injuries from his head to his groin and was to be held overnight for observation. "I don't think he lost consciousness," Ottawa coach Jaques Martin said. "He went into the boards with his leg, his arm and his head." Both were chasing the puck along the boards in front of the Flyers' bench as Philadelphia defenseman Eric Desjardins was coming off the ice through an open door at the end of the bench. Arvedson collided hard with the corner at the door's hinges. Bureau also went down hard as the crowd stood up like a wave. Arvedson tried twice to get up with the help of teammates and trainers, but fell both times. A stretcher was summoned, but Arvedson was helped off the ice without it. Bureau escaped with only a stiff neck.
