UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- With nowhere else to turn before his first penalty shot, Brad Isbister asked his goalie for some advice.

It worked, and Isbister beat Sean Burke with a move that got
Kevin Weekes' approval and helped the New York Islanders to a 2-2
tie Monday night with the Phoenix Coyotes.
Isbister gave New York a 1-0 first-period lead after being
pulled down by Keith Carney on a breakaway.
"Izzy asked me where to go, and I didn't really know where,"
Weekes said. "He said, 'How about forehand to backhand?' and I
said that sounded fine."
Playing in his first game against his former team, Isbister
skated in to the left of Burke, deked to his backhand and lifted a shot over the goalie's pad for his 13th goal.
"I kind of had that move in mind," said Isbister, acquired by
New York from the Coyotes on March 20. "I asked Kevin, and he assured me it was OK, so I went with it."
The Coyotes didn't think the penalty shot was warranted.
"Stewie makes the call," Coyotes coach Bob Francis said of
referee Paul Stewart. "I think it was clear that (Isbister) wasn't in (clear)."
Isbister had an earlier goal waived off when he was called for a penalty.
"Maybe it was a make-up call from the goal he called back with
the penalty," Francis said. "It's a discretionary call, but I didn't agree with it."
It was New York's first penalty shot since Mariusz Czerkawski
was stopped at Washington on Dec. 4, 1998. The last successful
Islanders penalty shot was when Tom Chorske beat Colorado's Patrick Roy on March 7, 1998.
Burke faced a penalty shot for the second time this season. He denied St. Louis' Terry Yake on Nov. 18 while with the Florida Panthers.
There have been six goals on 20 NHL penalty shots this season.
Weekes, who stopped 30 shots -- including all 14 he faced in a
difficult first period -- was not surprised Isbister asked him for help.
"I'm a goalie," Weekes said. "There's no other person to come to other than me."
Bill Muckalt, who was obtained with Weekes and Dave Scatchard from Vancouver last month, scored early in the third to rally New York.
Muckalt skated down right wing and cut across the slot. His
backhander was stopped, but the rebound came right back to
Muckalt, who scored his eighth goal at 5:59.
Burke started his second straight game in goal for Phoenix after
missing 16 contests with a torn thumb ligament. He stopped two
point-blank attempts with 4:30 left in regulation to preserve the
draw.
"He made some stops," Francis said. "The other kid didn't
play too shabby, either. I think we got caught flat-footed."
Neither team has lost this season in overtime. Burke and
Weekes turned aside scoring opportunities in the extra session.
The Islanders drew their only power play with 41 seconds left in
overtime, creating a four-on-three advantage they couldn't convert.
New York held a 37-32 shots advantage against Phoenix, which
completed a road trip 1-2-1. The Coyotes lead the NHL with 27 road points.
"We opened up a little bit and gave too many chances in the
third and overtime," Francis said. "The energy level that we had left, I think it showed we were tired."
Deron Quint scored his fifth goal 1:48 into the third period to
give the Coyotes their only lead.
Quint took a pass from Rick Tocchet, skated to the center of the blue line and whistled a shot over Weekes' right shoulder.
Jyrki Lumme tied it at 1-all 4:36 into the second with his
sixth. Jamie Heward's clearing attempt went right to Lumme just
inside the blue line, and he ripped a shot past Weekes.
Tim Connolly, the Islanders first-round pick -- fifth overall --
in last year's draft, was a healthy scratch. The 18-year-old center
-- the NHL's youngest player -- played in New York's first 39 games.
