DENVER (AP) -- Sometimes Alex Tanguay plays more like a veteran than a 25-year-old rookie.

Tanguay tied the game in the third period Monday night and Jon Klemm had his first goal in nearly two months as the Colorado Avalanche earned a 2-2 draw with the Edmonton Oilers.
"I felt no sense of urgency when we fell behind because there
was so much time left," said Tanguay, who spent all of last year
with Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. "We weren't
that far behind and figured if we kept working hard and forced the
play a little more, we would get more scoring chances."
Doug Weight and Roman Hamrlik scored for Edmonton, which
remained a point behind Colorado at the top of the Northwest
Division.
With the game tied at 1, Avalanche defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh turned the puck over deep in the Colorado zone. Pat Falloon pounced on it and fed Weight with a cross-ice pass. Weight sent a low drive
past the stick of Patrick Roy at 4:34 of the third period.
"Patty got the puck and made a great play to me," Weight
said."I just tipped it in."
Tanguay made it 2-2 at 13:40 when Joe Sakic, who had two
assists, circled the net and sent a pass in front of the crease to
a waiting Tanguay. It was his ninth goal.
"Deadmarsh came back and made a great forecheck and Sakic made
a great pass," Tanguay said. "This was big because with a win,
Edmonton would have moved ahead of us."
The Oilers, 4-14-4 on the road, outshot Colorado 5-0 in overtime. Tommy Salo stopped 30 shots for the Oilers, who finished a three-game road trip 1-1-1.
"Considering the seriousness of this game we will take a point
against this team in their building any time," Edmonton coach
Kevin Lowe said. "We are improving all the time and are starting
to get goals and with eight games coming up at home, we have a
chance to put a streak together."
Scoring chances were at a premium in a scoreless first period.
Falloon hit the right post eight minutes in and Salo turned aside
shots by Milan Hejduk and Chris Drury on Colorado's best chances.
The teams exchanged goals in the second period. Colorado grabbed
a 1-0 lead when Peter Forsberg skated behind the Oilers net and fed
Klemm in the slot. Klemm sent a wrist shot past Salo at 5:33 for
his first goal since Nov. 11th.
Hamrlik tied it at 8:40 with four seconds left on a power play.
Bill Guerin took the puck away in the corner from Adam Deadmarsh,
who lost his stick, and got it to Hamrlik for a right-point shot.
"Give Edmonton credit," Colorado coach Bob Hartley said.
"Every one of our lines generated scoring chances, but there was
always a stick coming to knock the puck away or block a shot."
