PITTSBURGH -- NHL scoring leader Jaromir Jagr, who said last
week he might miss the All-Star Game because of a rib injury, now
says a banged-up thumb may cause him to skip Sunday's game in
Toronto.

Jagr, upset a penalty wasn't assessed after he absorbed a slash
across his left thumb Monday in Atlanta, said Tuesday that he would
prefer to sit out the All-Star break to get healthy.
Jagr recently missed four games with a sore rib cage muscle,
only to injure his thumb three games after returning from the rib
injury.
The thumb was heavily wrapped in tape during a 3-2 victory
Tuesday over Washington, but Jagr didn't bother getting an X-ray.
"It's probably broken," he said. "But I don't want to know."
Jagr would prefer to skip the Toronto festivities, get some
medical attention and rest up for a stretch of four games in six
nights next week.
"I'm not sure if I'm going to play," Jagr said. "I'd rather
see the doctors and get ready for some very important games we've
got coming up. We've got some very important games coming up."
But if Jagr plays as expected Thursday against the New York
Islanders, the NHL probably would exert some pressure, subtle or
otherwise, for him to appear in Toronto.
Jagr was by far the leading vote-getter, becoming the first
player to draw more than 1 million votes in the fan balloting.
"They put some pressure on me last (Monday) night by hitting me
on the finger," Jagr said.
Despite his injuries, Jagr assisted on two of the Penguins'
three goals Tuesday, giving him 36 goals and 43 assists and a
league-leading 79 points in 46 games.
"He's playing unbelievable right now," said teammate Martin
Straka, who scored twice. "He's giving us a chance to win right
now."
