The Steelers head to Baltimore looking to extend their domination against the Ravens. Pittsburgh has won four straight and owns a 5-1 edge in this series, and a year ago swept this rivalry for the second straight year. On opening day at Baltimore (Week 1), the Ravens outgained the Steelers by more than 100 total yards (376-271) and played turnover-free football, but poor special teams execution (3 missed field goals by PK Matt Stover and since-departed LS Harper LeBel's snap went through P Kyle Richardson's legs, setting up an easy Pittsburgh touchdown in the third quarter) proved costly as Bill Cowher's club escaped with a 20-13 triumph. Six weeks later at Three Rivers Stadium (Week 7), Pittsburgh's defense limited the Ravens to 230 total yards, recorded 7 sacks and forced 5 turnovers as the Steelers eeked out an ugly 16-6 triumph. The Ravens are 0-3 lifetime at Three Rivers Stadium dating back to 1996. Numbers: After scoring just five offensive touchdowns in their last seven games in '98, the Steelers scored five offensive touchdowns in their Week 1 victory over the Browns. Since 1996 (including playoffs), the Steelers are 24-3 when limiting the opposition to 17 or fewer points, 7-19 when giving up more than 17 points (1-8 in '98). Including playoffs, Steelers have rushed for 130 or more yards in 22 of their last 35 games dating back to '97. The Steelers have totaled three or more sacks in nine of their last 14 games dating back to '98. The Steelers have allowed just 89 points in eight wins (15 or fewer points in seven of those contests) while giving up 214 points in nine losses dating back to '98. The Ravens have scored 145 points in six wins, 134 points in 11 losses dating back to '98. Baltimore has committed 28 turnovers in their last 12 games dating back to '98. In his last 18 games dating back to '97, WR/KR Jermaine Lewis has caught 50 passes for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, plus returned four punts for scores. Things To Look For: While the Steelers can be happy their new-look offense put some points on the board, reality says they were facing an expansion team last week. Regardless, their own performance had to build a little confidence. As for the Ravens, QB Scott Mitchell didn't look much different in a Baltimore uniform than he did in Detroit, and his carelessness could prove costly against a tricky Pittsburgh defense. Etc.: The Steelers are 35-17 vs. AFC Central teams under head coach Bill Cowher (including 1-0 in playoffs). Since entering the NFL in 1996, the Ravens are 6-18 vs. AFC Central rivals. |
