INDIANAPOLIS -- Today was the day I was supposed to run, that I was supposed to show everybody just how fast I am. But instead, I watched. I sat in the RCA Dome seats and watched as my group, Group No. 8, went through the passing routes, the three-cone drill and the 40-yard dash. I was a little surprised, but it wasn't that difficult to watch.
Even though I had built myself up for this weekend, trained for this exact day and now couldn't participate, I knew what was best. Going out and running and possibly injuring my sore hamstring further wasn't even remotely worth it, so I watched. And I can honestly say that nobody stuck out -- either good or bad. All the other receivers, from Antonio Bryant and Josh Reed to Marquis Walker and Andre' Davis, performed like I had expected. In a little more than three weeks, I'll get my chance. For now, I'm headed back to Hawaii. I haven't been home in about two months, so I'm eager to get back, see my girlfriend, see my old friends and teammates and continue my preparation for the draft. Not to mention I miss the weather. It snowed here in Indianapolis today and it was the first time I had ever seen real snow. It was pretty cool. Cold, but cool. My trainer, Chip Smith, gave me a workout program that I can follow in Hawaii to keep me in top shape. I'll also continue to get some massage treatments so my hamstring will be perfect for my pro workout day. As for when that will be, it's up in the air. Sometime in late March. I'm going to train with my quarterback from Hawaii last year, Nick Rolovich. By me holding my pro day on the West Coast with Nick, it will hopefully help Nick's chances of being drafted. As for the combine, it came and went and nothing really surprised me. Obviously it was a disappointment I couldn't run, but it was still great to shake some hands and meet all the big-name coaches and stuff. As of now, I don't have the slightest idea who is going to take me. A lot of teams showed interest, but I was shuttled in and out of so many meetings, I can barely remember who was who. And as I've said all along, it really doesn't matter where I go. My original goal was just to be picked in the first three rounds. Now I want to be a first-round selection and hopefully that will happen. My agent thinks I could go in the top 10, but we'll have to wait and see. I think a lot depends on how I look in my pro day and if I can prove to everyone that I'm 100 percent healthy. My hamstring has never bothered me before, so it isn't like this is serious or anything. I just need to go out there and prove what I can do. After that, it will all be up to the teams. |
