Ranking the AFC East

AFC East
Team Hoge's analysis
Indianapolis Colts While the Colts have yet to do anything impressive defensively, I favor them to win the East because of their offense. They will be able to create more match-ups and score more points than any other team in their division. They've always struggled defensively in the latter part of the season. Hopefully, they've created some depth in the offseason and they can maintain defensive credibility for a greater duration of the season than they have in the past.
Miami Dolphins Dave Wannstedt has a stout defense, who will continue to play the aggressive style they're good at. They'll be great against the run and the pass, and they'll challenge everything on the field. Their offensive line and running game will be better than last year, and Jay Fiedler will be better, too. With a year under his belt, Chan Gailey will show improvement. If their offense improves even a little bit, it should make their defense that much better.
New York Jets The Jets are using a new system, and a team with a new system is always cause for concern. But defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell is brilliant, and he brings tremendous schemes and a terrific teaching ability to this ball club. The key for this new system is that the personnel Cottrell is inheriting fits his scheme. They have two complete backs in Curtis Martin and Richie Anderson. Anderson is the factor-back that every team looks for. He will be vital.
Buffalo Bills Gregg Williams is going to come on like wildfire; this league will see what a brilliant leader and coach he is, who inspires and directs his troops. They'll need some consistency at running back and quarterback. Defensively, they should have some players who can still play at a quality level. Williams' style will be a different defensive style than the Bills fans are used to, but different doesn't mean negative.
New England Patriots Defensively, the Patriots need to decide if they want to play a 3-4 or a 4-3; once they make that decision they should be a much better defensive team. Offensively they should have some explosiveness in the passing game, because they still have one of the best QBs in the league. Of course, to sustain an offense for an entire season, a team must have a running back.
