A look at major trades completed during the 1999 NFL offseason:

Carolina Panthers: Acquired quarterback Jeff Lewis from the Denver Broncos for undisclosed draft picks in 1999 and 2000.

Cleveland Browns: Acquired quarterback Ty Detmer from the San Francisco 49ers for a fifth-round pick and the right to swap picks in the fourth round; acquired tight end Irv Smith and defensive end Roy Barker from the 49ers for past considerations; acquired linebacker Chris Spielman from the Buffalo Bills for past considerations.

Miami Dolphins: Acquired running back Tyrone Wheatley from the New York Giants for an undisclosed draft pick in 1999; Acquired guard Kevin Gogan from the 49ers for an undisclosed 1999 draft pick.

New Orleans Saints: Acquired wide receiver-returner Eddie Kennison from the St. Louis Rams for a second-round pick in the 1999 draft.

Pittsburgh Steelers: Acquired wide receiver Alex Van Dyke from the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 1999 draft.

Washington Redskins: Acquired quarterback Brad Johnson from the Minnesota Vikings for first- and third-round picks in 1999 and a second-round pick in 2000.
