Question of the Day: One season unlike the other

ESPN.com

Which team's preseason performance was less indicative of how they will fare during the regular season?

Andrea Kremer
St. Louis Rams
The Rams are once again picked as the favorite to win the Super Bowl, and they went 0-4 in the preseason. Although there are always kinks to be worked out for any team, Mike Martz's main goal going into the regular season was to make sure everyone was as healthy as possible, and that means limited playing time for his big guns. Also, with Jamie Martin sidelined with a moderate shoulder separation, Kurt Warner's backups needed to get their reps. Martz, like his counterpart, Mike Shanahan in Denver, has been gameplanning and scheming for months. We should see a much crisper Rams team on Sunday against the Broncos.

Mark Malone
Washington Redskins
They have a new system and a new coach, Steve Spurrier. They put up a lot of points against vanilla defenses in the preseason. Although I'm a proponent of an attacking style of offense, it's critical to have the proper athletes in place to be successful with it. The Redskins' defense will keep them in football games, and win some as well. But in terms of their ability to put up 35-38 points a game, that's not going to happen.

Merril Hoge
New York Jets
While I expect them to be better, I don't expect them to dominate as they did in the preseason, when they went 4-0. Although I believe the Jets have improved in that offensive coordinator Paul Hackett has catered his offense more now to Vinny Testaverde, I still think the New England Patriots are the best team in the AFC East. The AFC East will be a struggle, and I think the Patriots will win it, not the Jets.

Mike Golic
St. Louis Rams/Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles were 1-3 in the preseason, and the Rams were 0-4. They met in the NFC title game last year, and they could meet there again. Nobody should put too much stock in preseason. It's hard to gauge and judge teams based on preseason performance. The teams that get hurt the most are the ones that lose players, like Jamir Miller in Cleveland and Rocket Ismail in Dallas. Records, though, mean absolutely nothing. The slate is clean for Week 1, and that is all that matters.

Mark Schlereth
St. Louis Rams
The Rams obviously didn't play well, going 0-4, but they know what kind of players they have. They protected their big-time players and didn't let them play very much. Their performance was less indicative of how they will do. For a lot of teams, preseason may mean something. To the Rams, it means absolutely nothing.
