Question of the Day: The man with the plan

ESPN.com

Who is the NFL's best at building a game plan?

Merril Hoge
Bill Belichick
He is my choice based on two games -- the AFC championship game and the Super Bowl. The Patriots were preparing for two completely different offensive teams, Pittsburgh and St. Louis. He had to prepare for each within a week's time of each other, and the Patriots were able to dominate both styles. For a big game, there is no one better than Belichick.

Mark Malone
Norv Turner
He is as good as anyone in the league at designing game plans and utilizing everybody -- the tight end, the wide receivers, the running back. It's been well-documented how his running backs have performed wherever he has been, whether he has been a head coach or an offensive coordinator. There are several other quality candidates, including Jon Gruden, Steve Mariucci and Mike Holmgren. But Turner has been around for some time and has a solid background. I wouldn't mind having him putting together a solid game plan and calling plays for my team.

Andrea Kremer
Bill Belichick
He has the ability to break down an opposing offense, find the weaknesses and consistently put his players in the best position to win. And this isn't just stopping the Rams in the Super Bowl. This goes back to the Giants stopping the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. His ability to make game-day adjustments is just uncanny. If I wanted one coach to build a game plan, it would be Belichick.

Sean Salisbury
Offense: Norv Turner; Defense: Bill Belichick
I love Turner because he can build as good a game plan as anybody, and he has proven himself at every stop, whether it has been Dallas, Washington or San Diego. I expect him to continue his great game-planning and play-calling in Miami. On defense, Belichick belongs at the top of the list. He can take away a team's offensive stud and put his defenders in the right position.

Mike Golic
Bill Belichick
I don't know how anybody could not pick Belichick. The game plan he had for St. Louis was fantastic. We saw it all through the season and the playoffs. When the Patriots had to have it the most, Belichick found a way to get just enough done. On paper, not many people would match up the Patriots' defense with a lot of offenses around the league, but in the Super Bowl, Belichick was able to disguise, to put pressure on Kurt Warner, and to knock the Rams' receivers off their timing routes. You couldn't get much better than that.

Mark Schlereth
Bill Belichick/Romeo Crennel
Defensively, they are the best. Every Patriots defensive player knows his assignment down to dotting all the "i's" and crossing all the "t's." The players execute the plan with incredible proficiency, even after only three days of practice. It could be a completely different scheme from anything an offensive player has seen when studying their past games. I know Belichick did it to me as a player two or three times. We would practice one thing the entire week and then have to throw everything out the door after the game began.
