About the play: Oakland is loaded with weapons, and the best one is still Tim Brown. He is precise and consistent in his route running. Quarterback Rich Gannon likes "618 flat" because it gives him a chance to take a five-step drop and get the ball to Brown quickly on the 12-yard post. This is a good red-zone play that prevents a lot of sacks and can produce points. Gannon will read the free safety and try to look him to the left to he can get a little seam to pitch the ball to Brown on his route. The Z receiver, James Jett, and the Y (tight end Rickey Dudley) are running their curl/flat routes on the strong side. That should force the free safety to at least look at Jett, which is all Gannon and Brown need to be successful. Keys to the play: The big key for this pass to work is Gannon. He has to keep his eyes to Jett until he puts his fifth step in the ground, then come back to Brown. The ball must come out on time and with a lot of velocity.
It also is critical that Brown give a good lean to the corner before he breaks to the post. This will give him more room with Gannon on the pass. | ALSO SEE Thursday preview Thursday night spotlight AFC: Titanic development Week 14 injury report Week 14 picks |
