MESA, Ariz. -- Super Bowl star Michael Pittman was charged with aggravated assault, accused of ramming a car carrying his wife, their son and a baby sitter.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' running back, who was charged Tuesday, faces a preliminary hearing June 16 on the two counts, the county attorney's office said.

No one was hurt when Pittman allegedly rammed his Hummer into his wife's car last Saturday near Pittman's home in Phoenix.

Pittman, who played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Bucs as a free agent last year, was arguing with his wife about taking his 2-year-old son to training camp, Phoenix police Lt. Michael Cecchini said.

The running back was arrested twice on domestic violence charges in the summer of 2001. He also was arrested in 1997, and sentenced to a batterers' treatment program and two years' probation.

Pittman's wife gave birth to the couple's second child last month.
