Niners reportedly interested in Stoops, Neuheisel

ESPN.com news services

Oklahoma Sooners coach Bob Stoops apparently won't be the next head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Stoops recently turned away inquiries from the San Francisco 49ers, The Daily Oklahoman reported Sunday.

Though Stoops declined to comment on the situation, he said, "I love my job."

The San Francisco Chronicle, citing unnamed sources, reported Saturday that the 49ers remained interested in Stoops and Washington coach Rick Neuheisel. Neither the 49ers nor the two schools would confirm that any contact has been made.

Meanwhile, ESPN.com has learned that 49ers officials have informed New York Jets defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Greg Blache and San Francisco defensive coordinator Jim Mora Jr. -- the three finalists for their head-coaching position -- that they would have a decision by "the end of the week." No specific day was given to them.

Niners general manager Terry Donahue was expected to meet owner John York Sunday to discuss the three candidates.
