DETROIT -- Detroit Lions chief executive Matt Millen held more talks over the weekend with Steve Mariucci about the team's coaching opening. "Matt and Steve continued to discuss the opportunity,'' team spokesman Bill Keenist said. "But there's nothing new to report beyond that.'' Millen fired former head coach Marty Mornhinweg on Jan. 27, just under a month after announcing that the coach would be back for a third season. Millen has admitted that Mariucci's firing in San Francisco was a factor in his change of plans. He has not publicly named any other candidate for the job. Mornhinweg was fired a month after Detroit finished 3-13. His 5-27 overall record was the worst two-year stretch in franchise history. Mariucci, a native of Iron Mountain, Mich., was 60-43 with the 49ers and guided the team to the playoffs four times. But he clashed with San Francisco owner John York and was fired three days after a 31-6 playoff loss at Tampa Bay.
