The Jacksonville Jaguars hired Bill Musgrave as offensive coordinator and Ravens linebacker coach Mike Smith as defensive coordinator Monday.
The moves are in keeping with the team's front-office youth movement. Smith is 43 and Musgrave is 35. They'll work with the 39-year-old Del Rio, who was hired last week after a year as Carolina's defensive coordinator.
Smith joined the Ravens in 1999 after 12 seasons at Tennessee Tech. He was on the Baltimore staff with Del Rio in 2000 when the Ravens won the Super Bowl.
Musgrave is a former NFL quarterback who spent time with the 49ers and Broncos. He spent the last two seasons as offensive coordinator at Virginia, and before that was quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Panthers. He resigned that position four games into the 2000 season.
New coach Jack Del Rio said his background as a former linebacker and defensive coach doesn't mean he'll be conservative on offense, and he's expected to ask Musgrave to design a wide-open attack.
The Jaguars are still searching for a personnel executive. They wanted to hire Phil Savage of Baltimore, but negotiations broke down during the weekend. Del Rio also added to his staff Wednesday, hiring Ken Anderson as quarterbacks coach, Alvin Reynolds to handle the defensive backs and Mike Haluchak to oversee the linebackers.
Anderson spent the last 10 years on the Cincinnati Bengals' staff after a 16-year playing career with the team. He served as quarterbacks coach the past two seasons and in his first three years with the Bengals. He was the team's offensive coordinator from 1996-2000.
Reynolds spent the past four seasons as a defensive assistant with Carolina. He previously spent three years as a defensive assistant with Denver and later coached the secondary for three years in Baltimore.
A 17-year NFL coaching veteran, Haluchak has spent the past three years coaching the St. Louis Rams' linebackers. Haluchak also had coaching stints with San Diego, Cincinnati, Washington and the New York Giants.
