NEW YORK -- Giants rookie Jeremy Shockey was fined $10,000 for throwing a cup of ice into the stands and making an obscene gesture during a first-round playoff loss at San Francisco. The NFL docked the All-Pro tight end $5,000 for each act, league spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. Shockey, a rookie who also made the Pro Bowl, threw the cup over his shoulder in the first quarter while being heckled by fans after he complained about the officiating. The cup hit two children seated in the first row behind the Giants' bench. The Giants apologized and gave the boys a football. Later, they were invited to the locker room, where Shockey signed the ball. A first-round draft pick from the University of Miami, Shockey is known for his demonstrative behavior on the field. But this was the first time the league fined him for any of his antics. |
