Highly regarded offensive line coach George Warhop, sought by several teams after his contract was not renewed by the Arizona Cardinals, is the latest addition to Bill Parcells' staff with the Dallas Cowboys. Warhop, 41, will replace offensive line coach Frank Verducci, who was not retained by Parcells, and inherits a blocking crew that was among the NFL's most ineffective in '02. Victimized by injuries and ineptitude, the Cowboys started nine different line units, and as a result had little consistency. Exacerbating the situation is that both starting tackles, Flozell Adams and Solomon Page, are eligible for unrestricted free agency this spring. A former center for the Cincinnati Bengals (1981-82), Warhop began his coaching career at the University of Cincinnati in 1983. He landed his first professional coaching job with the London Monarchs of the NFL Europe League in 1991. His first NFL job was with the St. Louis Rams (1996-97), where he served as the No. 2 offensive line coach behind the legendary Jim Hanifan, and then he moved to the Arizona staff in 1998. Among the teams interested in Warhop over the past two weeks were the Buffalo Bills. Len Pasquarelli is a senior writer for ESPN.com. |
