NEW ORLEANS -- Saints offensive tackle Kyle Turley told ESPN Radio's Dan Patrick on Tuesday that he might sue the NFL if it does not suspend Baltimore Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister.
McAlister ripped off the helmet of Saints' receiver Donte' Stallworth and tossed it through the end zone during a play that ended at the two-minute warning of the first half. McAlister was assessed a personal foul, and the penalty gave the Saints a first down at the Ravens' 12. New Orleans scored a touchdown on the possession. To Turley, that was not enough. Turley was ejected from a game against the New York Jets on Nov. 1, 2001, after ripping the helmet off safety Damien Robinson and hurling it across the Superdome field. He was fined $25,000 and ordered to take anger-management courses. "If they don't fine (McAlister) exactly what they fined me and make him go to anger management, then I definitely will sue the NFL for my money back,'' Turley told Patrick on "The Dan Patrick Show" on ESPN Radio. Turley could not be reached for comment by The Associated Press. Saints media relations director Greg Bensel said the team had no comment. NFL spokesman Mike Signora was aware of Turley's statements but the league had no comment. Signora added the play is under review by the NFL's director of football operations, Gene Washington. Washington, who metes out punishment for rules violations, reviews plays on Mondays and Tuesdays. He informs players of suspensions and fines by fax on Wednesdays. He reports them to the league on Thursdays. Saints coach Jim Haslett said during his Monday press conference that after McAlister threw the helmet, he asked one of the officials why the cornerback hadn't been ejected. "He said because he didn't throw it at anyone,'' Haslett said. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. |
