Lewis has soft tissue damage in his left leg

Associated Press

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Ray Lewis has another injury besides his ailing shoulder -- soft tissue damage in his left leg, which could sideline him Sunday when the Ravens play Tennessee.

The star linebacker was held out of practice Wednesday and was listed as doubtful in the team's injury report to the league.

Ravens coach Brian Billick said Lewis' status for Sunday probably will be determined shortly before kickoff.

Lewis missed five straight weeks with a partially separated left shoulder before returning Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The five-time Pro Bowl player was credited with 18 tackles, but a collision with teammate Ed Hartwell left him with a swollen calf and ankle.

Lewis started 63 straight games before the shoulder injury held him out of the Oct. 13 game against Indianapolis. He's played in only game since.

"People want me to be frustrated. I'm not frustrated,'' Lewis said. "I just don't have the answers people want me to have. I just don't. It's just that simple. I'm just trying to get healthy and trying to play football, and we'll go from there.''

Asked to describe the treatment he's receiving on his leg, Lewis said, "Swimming, walking, the stuff you get tired of. I'm just dealing with both injuries, trying to get healthy.''

After finally putting the shoulder injury behind him, Lewis now has something else to worry about.

"I'm sure he's disappointed about that, just because he worked so hard to get back with the shoulder,'' Ravens linebacker Peter Boulware said.

"Then you get something on the leg that slows you up a little bit. But he's not going to stay down long. If he can go out and play, he's going to do it.''
