Gannon's precision breaks 20-year NFL record

Associated Press

DENVER -- Oakland's Rich Gannon broke a nearly 20-year-old, single-game NFL record by completing 21 consecutive passes against the Denver Broncos on Monday night.

Gannon topped the mark of 20 set by Cincinnati's Ken Anderson against the Houston Oilers on Jan. 2, 1983. The record for most consecutive completions in two games is 22, set by San Francisco's Joe Montana in 1987.

Gannon's streak ended in the fourth quarter when a short pass to Jerry Rice appeared to slip out of his hand and bounced about halfway to Rice.
