Fassel confident that Shockey will play Sunday

Associated Press

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey aggravated his turf toe injury and missed practice Thursday.

Giants coach Jim Fassel said Shockey ''tweaked'' the toe at practice Wednesday and could not participate in drills Thursday.

''I think he'll play each week,'' Fassel said of Shockey's status for the game Sunday in Minnesota. ''We'll just have to rest him, which makes me concerned about a lack of practice time and game-planning to get him the ball.''

Shockey, the Giants' first-round draft choice, hurt his toe against Dallas on Oct. 6, and missed most of that game and sat out the following game against Atlanta.

He has played in pain the past two weeks.

Shockey has 24 catches, seven more than all of the Giants' tight ends had last season.
