EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings and agents for first-round draft pick Bryant McKinnie continued to negotiate earnestly, but they appeared no closer to a contract agreement Thursday. Progress, though, has been made over the past week. "Talks have been productive,'' agent Ben Dogra said Thursday. "We're moving toward a common goal, and that's getting Bryant McKinnie on the field.'' The Vikings aren't commentating on the negotiations. Dogra said he anticipated working through the weekend, if need be, to get a deal done. If McKinnie -- whose holdout is nearing 100 days -- isn't signed by Nov. 12, he'll be ineligible to play this season. A complication is the NFL players' association's allegations of collusion in negotiations between the Vikings and McKinnie and Kansas City and rookie Ryan Sims, the No. 6 pick in the draft who signed with the Chiefs on Aug. 28 after a month-long holdout. The union claims the teams may have had knowledge of the signing bonus offered to a player picked after Sims and McKinnie -- which is not permitted -- and subsequently offered the two players a lower amount. The Vikings could lose the rights to McKinnie if the NFL management council finds them guilty of colluding with the Chiefs. Both teams have strongly denied the charges. |
