Sapp expected to play against Panthers

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. -- Warren Sapp was added to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' injury report Friday with a sprained left knee that is not expected to keep him from playing against Carolina.

The All-Pro defensive tackle, bothered at times since training camp by soreness in his knee, practiced Friday and is listed as probable for the game.

Quarterback Brad Johnson (fractured rib) and receiver Keenan McCardell (cracked shoulder blade) did not practice for the third straight day and are doubtful for Sunday.

Rob Johnson will make his first start for Tampa Bay at quarterback, while Joe Jurevicius will take over McCardell's spot in the lineup.

Coach Jon Gruden said Shaun King will back up Rob Johnson. Brad Johnson probably will be in uniform for the game but be inactive as the third quarterback.

"That looks like an optimistic and realistic goal at this time,'' Gruden said.

Brad Johnson was injured during the first series of last Sunday's 20-10 loss to Philadelphia, but he didn't leave the game until midway through the fourth quarter. Rob Johnson completed four of seven passes for 31 yards in his only series against the Eagles.

Offensive lineman Cosey Coleman, arrested last Monday on a domestic abuse charge, will start at left guard, Gruden said.
