Searcy has season-ending surgery on torn triceps

ESPN.com news services

MIAMI -- Make it three consecutive seasons that former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Leon Searcy has missed because of injuries.

Searcy, 32, underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn right triceps tendon and will not play this year.

The 11-year veteran was competing for a starting job with the Miami Dolphins when he got hurt Aug. 29. He missed the 2000 season with a torn right quadriceps while with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and missed the 2001 season with a torn left triceps tendon while with the Baltimore Ravens.

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said Searcy hasn't decided whether to retire or try to play next season.

Searcy suffered his latest injury in warmups before a Dolphins preseason game. Rosenhaus was hopeful that Search would be able to play in October, because an second MRI did not reveal a tear in the triceps tendon.

Searcy signed with the Dolphins in the spring as a free agent after he was released by the Ravens. The Dolphins' staff believed he would provide insurance at tackle and guard. He has appeared in 126 games in his career, starting 111 of them.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
