Cowboys trade Garmon to Chargers

ESPN.com news services

The Dallas Cowboys traded guard Kelvin Garmon to the San Diego Chargers on Saturday for a conditional 2003 draft choice.

To fill Garmon's spot on the active roster, the Cowboys have moved safety Keith Davis up from the practice squad.

"Kelvin really hadn't bought into the system, and we were at a point with our roster where we needed to make room for a safety because of injuries," said Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones. "To make that room we were planning to release Kelvin. San Diego was willing to make a trade to get him rather than take a chance on losing him to another team through waivers."

Garmon started all five games this season, the first three at right guard and the last two at left guard. He suffered a right hip contusion last week against the Giants and was not expected to play this week against Carolina.
