Duckett reportedly loses tooth, is otherwise OK

Associated Press

IONIA, Mich. -- Atlanta Falcons first-round draft pick T.J. Duckett was reportedly assaulted by three men after a concert at the Greater Ionia Fair.

Ionia County sheriff's deputies said three men started a fight with the former Michigan State running back about 10 p.m. Tuesday after the concert by the rapper Nelly, Lansing television station WILX reported.

Duckett, a personal guest of Nelly, was hit with a bottle that knocked out one tooth. He sustained no other injuries and resumed workouts Thursday, WLIX said.

Police reports said the three men were intoxicated. One was interviewed, but no arrests were made.

A message left for Duckett on Thursday night by The Associated Press was not immediately returned, and sheriff's deputies declined to provide any information.

Falcons spokesman Aaron Salkin said that the team was not aware of the assault but was looking into it.

Duckett is still unsigned by the Falcons and has been absent from training camp, which began Thursday in Greenville, S.C. The sides are $1.4 million apart on the signing bonus.

He is the first No. 1 pick to miss the start of training camp since coach Dan Reeves came to Atlanta in 1997. While the coach isn't expecting a long holdout, he does concede that every day is important to a rookie's development.

"All the stuff that happened today, he can't make that up,'' Reeves said after the first day. "Everything we did today is gone. He has a lot of things to learn. ... It's hard to replace that.''
