GRETNA, La. -- A man who kidnapped former Buffalo Bill and LSU football star Raion Hill and stole his vehicle was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
State District Judge Ross LaDart told Lionel Redditt, 23, of New Orleans, that what he did to Hill showed deliberate cruelty.
LaDart also found Thursday that Hill had suffered emotional trauma and that Redditt has shown no sign of remorse.
Hill, 25, testified that Redditt and another man, Prescott Smith, confronted him at gunpoint after he left the Denny's Restaurant at the West Bank Expressway and Terry Parkway in the early morning of Jan. 22, 2001.
They forced him into his vehicle and Redditt drove across a Mississippi River bridge while Smith held the gun, Hill said.
The victim said Redditt continually threatened to kill him and seemed to enjoy it.
The men tried unsuccessfully to use Hill's ATM card to get money from an ATM on Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans, then set him free. Smith is scheduled to be tried later.
LaDart sentenced Redditt to serve 50 years for armed robbery and 40 years for second-degree kidnapping, with the sentences to run concurrently.
Hill, 25, grew up in Marrero and played football at Brother Martin High School and LSU before playing strong safety for the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League. He now is a free agent and may try out for the New Orleans Saints, he said. |
